Páirc Chlochóg, Cluain Eo, Oileán an Ghuail, Tír Eoghain.

Our senior hurlers got back to winning ways in the Armagh League this evening when they recorded a good victory over a travelling Castleblayney team.

In stark contrast to last week's Killeavy game, this was a contest that was controlled from the outset by a determined NCC outfit with clinical finishing and direct play the order of the evening.

AJ McCann, operating from his full forward berth, set the tone almost from the throw in when he gathered possession 30 yards out from the 'Blayney goal and charged past his man before blasting a shot beyond the keeper and into the rigging to set the Cilles on their way.

From there until the end the Black and Red never relinquished their lead and went into half time with an unassailable lead of 1-11 to 0-7 with further scores from AJ, Lughaidh Mór, Oisín Mór, Rónán Maguire and Chris Kearns further augmenting the NCC dominance.

The second half began in a similar vein to the first with further goals from Lughaidh Mór and a second major from AJ McCann, points from Oisín Mór, Gary Mulgrew, Vinny McCann, Chris Kearns, Lughaidh Mór and AJ McCann all but sewing the match up.

The Monaghan men offered some resistance in the second half and added a further 1-5 to their tally as the evening wore on.

Much credit can be afforded to the stoicism of the NCC rear guard for their defensive efforts on the night as they repelled plenty of 'Blayney attacks as they searched for goals in an effort to reduce the deficit.

Rory Poncánach Ó Néill was a steady presence in goal throughout the evening with his full back line of Liam McIllvenna, Paul Maguire and Irwin Donnellan all battling bravely in front of him. Ryan Dubh O'Neill had a calming affect on the game at centre half back with his smart play and even distribution proving the launch pad for countless Cilles' attacks. Big Seán Kelly and  young Odhrán McMurray complimented him on either wing with assured performances as well.

The return of Caolán Ó Corra i lár na páirce did much to ensure control of the middle third with his tough play and the high fielding and energetic workrate of Vinny McCann did plenty to keep the Black and Red on the front foot throughout the game.

Chris Kearns led the attack from centre half forward and brought plenty of men into the game with his neat passing and prompting all evening. He chipped in with two good points of his own as did his fellow half forwards Rónán Maguire and Gary Mulgrew who contributed a couple of points between them.

Up front, our full forward line of Oisín Mór and youngsters AJ McCann and Lughaidh Mór did most of the damage on the scoreboard as they posted 3-11 between them with all but one of the scores coming from open play.

All in all this was a steady performance from the Black and Red and one that our management of Seámy Carron, Niall Gleann and Ryan Poncánach will be largely pleased with.

We seemed to have done enough by the midway point of the second half as we built up a 2-17 to 0-7 lead, however the Monaghan men outscored us by 1-5 to a goal in the final quarter to put a glean of respectability on the scoreboard before referee Barry Winters sounded the full time whistle with the result reading 3-17 to 1-12 in favour of NCC.

Next up for the lads is an away fixture with Carrickmacross next Tuesday evening.
