Our senior hurlers got off to a good start i babhta 1 of the Cú Chulainn Adult Club Hurling league this evening (10/06/24) when they travelled to Omagh to take on the 2023 Tír Eoghain junior champions Naomh Éanna at Healy Park.

In a tight game of hurling that was level at half time (1-7 apiece) the Black and Red did enough to pull away in the second half to record a good 2-17 to 1-13 win.

Rónán Maguire top scored on the evening for NCC with 2-1 to his name with his goals in either half doing a lot to sway the outcome in his side’s favour.

He was ably assisted in the scoring stakes by AJ McCann who continued his recent fine scoring form by posting six points throughout the hour (0-4 from play). Chris Kearns hurled well at centre half forward as well and finished our top point scorer from play as he raised the white flag on no fewer than five occasions.

Further scores from Gary Mulgrew (0-2), Odhrán McMurray (0-1), Vinny McCann (0-1) and Oisín Mór (0-1) completed the scoring for the Cilles.

In a changed team from last week’s Carrickmacross match there were starts for Peter Corr in the half back line, Aaron McCann at corner forward and the returning Paul Maguire at full back as the management switched things up a bit. Ryan Dubh O’Neill moved out to the middle of the field, in the absence of Caolán Ó Corra, with our recently crowned back to back Tír Eoghain senior Poc Fada champion Seán Kelly taking over at centre half back.

The changes didn’t affect our overall performance and indeed the second half introductions of Shea Coney, Ruairí  O’Hagan, Eric Kirwan and Oisín Mór did much to augment our team with each playing their part in helping to secure the two points.

Overall, Seámy and his management team will be pleased enough with aspects of the performance and especially the way in which we pulled away to win by seven points in the second half and claim the club’s first ever victory in this central council run competition.
