🏆 Tyrone Grade 1 Under 16 Hurling Championship - Round 1

âŹ›ïžđŸŸ„đŸŸ© NCC-DĂșiche NĂ©ill 3-20

âŹœïžđŸŸ„ Eoghan Ruadh 3-00

Our faoi 16 NCC-DĂșiche NĂ©ill hurlers made the short journey to the Hurling Fields in Dungannon this evening (09/06/25) where they crossed camĂĄin with near neighbours Eoghan Ruadh in the opening round of the TĂr Eoghain Grade 1 championship.

It was a dirty evening for hurling and one might have been forgiven for opting to sit in the house as the rain fell incessantly throughout the hour.

NCC-DN adapted quicker to the greasy underfoot conditions and were 1-05 to no score up with 18 minutes on the clock. Centre half forward Fionn Daly opened the Black ‘n’ Red scoring account with a monstrous 65 metre point in the fifth minute and he added a further two points (0-01 from play, 0-01 free) alongside well struck points from play from Erikas Petrauskas and OdhrĂĄn Coleman either side of a brilliantly taken goal from Daniel Kane in the 16th minute.

The Eoghan Ruadh challenge caught fire in the 20th minute after they raised the green flag following a goal mouth scramble in the 20th minute.

Less than a minute later, the Dungannon lads had rattled the net for a second time to bring themselves right back into the game leaving the score reading 1-05 to 2-00 in NCC-DN’s favour.

The shock of the two sucker punch goals took our lads by surprise and a further five minutes had elapsed on the clock before we registered our next score.

That man again, Fionn Daly, was the man to step up as he drilled over a difficult free in the 26th minute to settle us back into the game and his score prompted a further four more NCC-DN points as Erikas Petrauskas, with a monstrous strike from distance, Kylan Preece, with a neatly struck score off his left hand side, and another couple of mighty efforts from Fionn Daly sent us in seven points to the good as the half time whistle sounded.

Leath-am:

We took up where we had left off at the start of the second half and young Aodhan Donnelly, playing at left half forward, was involved in the opening two points as he scored a lovely effort himself in the 31st minute before turning provider for full forward OdhrĂĄn Coleman’s second point of the evening in the 38th minute.

With the NCC-DN lead stretched to nine points things were beginning to look good before Eoghan Ruadh delivered their next hammer blow!

A mightily struck Dungannon goal following strong midfield play left us with plenty to ponder as the game entered into the final quarter as the lead was cut to six points in the 45th minute.

This was as good as it got for the Eoghan Ruadh boys as we reeled off the next ten scores to secure our place in the semi final.

Goals off the hurleys of corner forward RuairĂ McGeary (54 mins) and his inside line partner OdhrĂĄn Coleman in the 56th minute put paid to any chance of a comeback with further points from Fionn Daly (0-02), Erikas Petrauskas (0-02), Daniel Kane, Kylan Preece, Reece Fee and the final point from team captain Tommy Loughran, who missed out on a starting place due to a serious hand injury, ensured we marched on to meet West TĂr Eoghain natives Fintona in the next round!
