Naomh Colum Cille Hurling and Camogie Notes

Ógra NCC underage hurling and camogie coaching makes a long awaited return to Páirc Chlochóg this Monday evening (17/04/23) after a very well attended winter training programme. Check the WhatsApp group for further details. NCC were grateful for the use of the excellent facilities at both Oileán an Ghuail Na Fianna and Eoghan Rua of Breac an Bhile. We offer coaching for boys and girls from from faoi 5.5 upwards with all equipment provided for newcomers.

Our faoi 8.5 and faoi 10.5 hurlers had useful outings on Saturday past (15/04/23) at Fintona with both teams taking part in the Tír Eoghain GoGames with mini games against Fintona, Omagh, Éire Óg agus Dúiche Néill.

The faoi 14 hurlers have been busy with games this last few weeks and have acquitted themselves well against both Éire Óg (twice) and Omagh recently. In the first encounter with the Carmen (played on 24/03/23), played under lights on Brackaville’s excellent 4G pitch, our young team suffered defeat against a bigger and more physical Éire Óg team.
Not to be deterred, the lads made amends at Páirc Chlochóg against Naomh Éanna of Omagh (played on 03/04/23) and came away with a one point victory, winning on a scoreline of 3-2 to 3-1.
Last Thursday evening (13/04/23) saw the return of the Carrickmore lads to East Tyrone with the game taking place at the more spacious surrounds of Páirc Chlochóg. Both teams served up a great hour’s hurling with the Éire Óg lads scraping home by a point, winning on a 2-3 to 1-5 scoreline.
Paul Donnelly and his management team have been pleased with the efforts of the squad and the regular games will only further the hurling development of this young team with all but a few still eligible at the grade over the next two or three years.
Next up for the boys is a game with our nearest neighbours Eoghan Ruadh this week. Beir bua Na Cille!

The seniors have been training away lately and had good runouts against Truagh Gaels of Monaghan and Warrenpoint of Down in recent weeks. The squad and club also benefitted greatly from the recent visit of Tallow to Páirc Chlochóg with the exposure to Déise hurling giving our lads plenty of food for thought for the coming season.

NCC have been well represented on Tír Eoghain teams with Lughaidh Mór Ó Néill, Connor McMurray agus Thomas Kelly-Watt all part of the faoi 17 Celtic Challenge squad, winning their opening two games against Roscommon and Carlow respectively.

NCC were also well represented on the county faoi 20 squad recently with no fewer than nine lads; AJ McCann, Conor Doherty, Daniel Taffe, Ferdia McCartney, Fionnán Salmon, Marc Hamilton, Odhran McMurray agus Seán Ó Néill all donning the red hand geansaí. Unfortunately Roscommon proved a step too far in the All Ireland ‘B’ quarter final, running out comfortable winners in the end.

The two Chris’, Kerins and Cross were the NCC representatives on the county senior squad for Sunday's draw with a much fancied Derry side at Healy Park. This result comes on the back of a decent Allianz League division 2B placing with Tír Eoghain consolidating their league status for another year. Next up in the Christy Ring cup is a trip to Castlebar this coming Saturday to take on the Mayo men. Tír Eoghain Abú!

The Crannchur NCC Lotto continues weekly with the next draw taking place this Wednesday 19th April at 7:30pm.
